Japan at Dieu du Ciel!

This year, the Mondial de la Bière will offer to its many visitors a taste of some of the best beers in Japan. Dieu du Ciel! wants to join the celebration by presenting a selection of the most delicious beers this wonderful country makes, on draft, at its Laurier Street pub.
Dieu du Ciel! is inviting you to discover the many tastes of Japanese beer on Wednesday, June 3rd, from 10 pm. That night, 9 Japanese beers will be available on draft. They are listed below:
Shiga Kogen: Takashi Imperial stout and Wheat Wine
Hakusekikan: Super Vintage beer (barley wine 2001) and Shizenbakushu (spontaneous fermentation beer)
Harvestmoon brewery: Barley wine
Minoh Beer: Minoh Double IPA
Baird Brewery: Pacific Century ale and Dark sky imperial stout
Fujizakura Kougen Beer: Rauchbier
The quantities are limited: only one 20-L barrel of each beer!
These beers were privately imported by the SAQ (it’s the law). Since SAQ likes to take its generous share, the imposed duty alone represents an average of 1.85 times the price the Japanese brewery asked of us. Add to this the costs of freight and empty kegs (if would have been even more expensive to return the empty kegs to the breweries), and you can imagine that the total price paid by Dieu du Ciel! is rather high.
That’s why these beers are only sold in 8-once glasses, with prices ranging from 8$ to 14$, depending on the beer.
The next day Thursday, these beers will be offered in rotation at Dieu du Ciel!, the whole Mondial through, as long as there’s some left.
Dieu du Ciel! celebrates Montreal… and Beer!

With the Mondial de la Bière, coming to us from June 3rd to 7th, Montreal will be the meeting place of many brewers and beer lovers from around the world, all through the week. To give all these happy people a place to meet and chat some more, Dieu du Ciel! is throwing a party on Saturday, June 6th, from 10 pm. Come and celebrate with us this week dedicated to beer in Montreal, and take the opportunity to meet the craftsmen that make the world of beer such an inventive, diversified, and happening environment. DJs and good beer will of course be attending.

Two new beers in bottle!!

The Aphrodisiaque, our cocoa and vanilla stout, is finally available in bottle. It can be found at most of the retailers that usually sell our beers.
Rigor Mortis Abt will become available starting on Monday May 18, 2009. As only one brew was made, it probably won't stay long on the shelves! It won't be brewed again before next year, so don't hesitate to make some reserve of it, mostly that this beer can easily withstand a few years of aging.
